The Third Review Club met recently in the home of Mrs. Charles Richards for the April meeting.
Vice president Mary Dunavant called the meeting to order. Peggy Drerup gave an inspiring thought for the day, “God is love.”
The roll call was answered by 11 members telling their favorite types of shoes.
Kate Jones gave the critic’s report for the 2009-10 meetings. She said all of the programs were within procedure, with no criticism.
Lindy Dunavant was voted to be invited to join the club. The May luncheon will be hosted by Pat Kasnow. Each member was asked to bring the dish they signed up for during the meeting.
The yearly dues were collected for the 2010-11 year.
Ms. Jones presented the program by reviewing the book “The Romance and History of Shoes.”
She discussed foot coverage from infants down through primitive man to the current time.
The primitive man used available materials, such as animal skins, bark and leaves, to fashion foot coverings.
From the primitive man she discussed how shoes were developed down through the Stone Age, and centuries in between, to the current time, telling of different styles in each of those steps of making shoes.
Men and women have many styles of shoes from which to choose today.
The United States is the largest producer and the largest consumer of shoes.
The meeting was adjourned until May.
Coffee, nuts, mints and a layered angel food cake with white frosting and a touch of lemon were served by the hostess.
