GIRL POWER — Special Olympics competitor Emily Richardson prepares to throw a softball Saturday morning during the Obion County games, held on the campus of Union City High School, with some encouragement from volunteer Patti Leeke (left) and Kiwanis Club member Sherry Naylor. Special Olympics offers year-round sports training and competition for children and adults who have physical or developmental disabilities. The local games are sponsored by the Union City Kiwanis Club. During Saturday’s event, which was moved indoors to UCHS’ multi-purpose building due to inclement weather, participants competed in a variety of track and field events. Each of them received a T-shirt provided by the Kiwanis Club and lunch donated by McDonald’s of Union City. Kiwanis Club members were joined by many other volunteers, including UCHS football players and Key Club members.
