Catherine “Cathy” Walker, 57, of South Fulton died 9:10 a.m. April 24, 2010, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. She was the daughter of Dorothy Walker of Union City.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Chapel Ministries, located at 230 Brooks Chapel Road near Fulton, with the Rev. Leroy Brent and Dr. Jessie L.O. Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton in Greenlea Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday.
Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 22, 1952, in Fulton, daughter of Mrs. Walker and the late James L. Walker. She was a 1970 graduate of South Fulton High School and she earned a degree in sociology from Kentucky State University in Frankfort in 1975. She was employed at the Kennedy Center at Vanderbilt University in Nashville for six years and then returned home to work at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She later moved to Louisville, Ky., and was employed as a data processor at the Louisville Seminary.
She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and had served on the usher board and been a member of the church choir before leaving the area to attend college.
Survivors also include two sisters and her brother-in-law, Vangie and Vernell Tharp of Paducah, Ky., and Etta Walker of Fulton; two nephews and the wife of one, Tim Tharp of Paducah and Brad and Stacy Walker of Fulton; her niece, Camille Walker of Nashville; two aunts and uncles, Fay and George Garmon of South Fulton and Diane and Erskin Bennett of Tulsa, Okla.; four great nephews, Tra Tharp of Paducah, Brad Walker of Louisville, Brandon Walker and Breenen Walker, both of Fulton; three great nieces, Dee Walker and Braylyn Walker, both of Fulton, and Timaya Tharp of Paducah; and several cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Candy Walker.
