BREAKING NEWS: Obion Central coaching legend Jimmy Whitby won’t return at LC

Obion County Central boys’ basketball coaching legend Jimmy Whitby — who has spent the past nine seasons at Lake County — won’t return to that position next season.

Whitby, who ranks in the Top 10 in the state among boys’ coaches in all-time wins with more than 850 victories, will be replaced by Dawn Barger — wife of new LC head football coach David Barger.

The Barger husband/wife tandem was officially hired on Monday.

They were previously in the Lake County School System for four years.

Dawn Barger will become just the third female  ever to direct a boys’ basketball team in Tennessee, according to unofficial reports.
