TOWNSEND (AP) — It was a long, hard winter in East Tennessee, and the black bear cubs have been especially hit hard.
Appalachian Bear Rescue in Townsend is housing 14 cubs that endured lack of food, the harsh winter and other circumstances that left them malnourished and dehydrated.
WBIR-TV reports the cubs were born in January 2009 and should weigh 40 to 50 pounds, but some of them are only 8 to 10 pounds.
The rescue is looking to its supporters to help pay for the cubs’ food and other needs. More information is available at http://www.appalachianbearrescue.org.
