| If the local baseball and softball fields were computers, there might have been a system overload on Wednesday due to the sheer volume of runs scored. The Obion Central softball team routed Ripley 13-1. Casey Russell smacked a grand slam, while Brandi Goodman knocked a three-run homer during that win. Meanwhile, Dresden was a run better than the South Fulton baseball team in a 21-20 slugfest. Today’s prep slate (weather permitting) has SF at Obion Central for a 4:30 game. The only softball game of the evening has OC on the road at Gibson County. SOFTBALL OC 13, Ripley 1 Aside from the homers from Russell and Goodman, Central (16-10) had other big bats. Olivia Grady and Meaghen Strayhorn both were 2-for-3 for the Lady Rebels. Grady doubled as did Mandi McDaniel and Laura Beth Shelton. Winning pitcher Emily Taylor struck out eight. BASEBALL Dresden 21, SF 20 South Fulton (6-14-1) reached a season-high in the runs department, but the Red Devils also committed seven errors. Red Devil Chance Hamlin was a home run short of the cycle with a 3-for-4 outing and five RBI. Ryan Prince was 2-for-4 with four ribbies, while Sam Curtis and Caleb Turner each had two hits as well. Curtis drove in a pair, while Turner plated one. Harrison Hawks and Kendall Greer both drove in two. Josh Clement was the losing pitcher. | | | |
