The University of Tennessee at Martin Vanguard Theatre will present its opening performance of “The Curious Savage” at 8 p.m. April 29 on the stage in the Student Life Center.
Additional performances will be at 8 p.m. April 30 and May 1 and at 3 p.m. May 2.
In the story, Mrs. Savage has been left $10 million by her late husband and wants to use it to help people who might not be able to realize their hopes and dreams. Her grown-up stepchildren want to get her money and form a plan to have her committed to a “sanatorium” hoping to “bring her to her senses” and take charge of the millions.
In the sanatorium, she meets a collection of social misfits who cannot adjust to life. She and her new friends lead the stepchildren on a merry chase, enabling Mrs. Savage to carry out her plans.
UT Martin cast members will include Erica C. Miller, Justin Hunt and Brent Harris, all of Martin; Davida Ambrose and Ian Gray, both of Memphis; Todd Hill of Charlotte; Leighanna Sims of Dyer; Laken Smith of Pulaski; Jordan Hensley of Hohenwald; Gabriel Mary Lewis of Jackson; and Lizzie Wouters of Knoxville.
Ken Zimmerman, lecturer of visual and theatre arts, will direct the production.
