None of the other local teams did.
The Twister boys were the only winners among the four local squads in action on Monday — edging Dyersburg 4-3.
The UC girls fell 5-2 to the Lady Trojans, while both Obion Central teams lost to Trenton in a makeup match.
The Rebel boys suffered their first defeat of the season in a 5-2 loss to the Tide, while their female counterparts were defeated by a 6-1 margin.
Today’s tennis slate has Union City as a host to Trenton at 4.
The Rebel tennis teams return to action on Thursday at home against Gibson County.
UC is also in action on Thursday afternoon against Crockett County on the road.
After Thursday’s action, Union City and Obion Central are scheduled to do battle on both April 26 and 27 in the final regular-season tennis matches for both schools.
The district team championship match is April 29 at UT Martin.
The individual district tournament is set for May 1.
It also will be played on the UTM courts.
On Monday, the Union City boys (4-2) claimed their triumph thanks to the work of the middle of the depth chart.
Second seed Cameron Graham bested Matt Wolf 8-4, while No. 3 Twister Julio Fuentes doubled Rick Van Sant 8-4.
Fourth-seeded Jackson Donnell was also a victor, claiming an 8-3 win over Hunter Jordan.
Fuentes and Donnell combined for an 8-5 victory in doubles play over Van Sant and Jordan.
Otherwise, top Twister Will Regan fell (8-1) to Zach Cathey.
No. 5 seed Jacob Triplett was edged (9-7) by Franz Echavez.
Regan and Graham also fell in tandem play to Cathey and Wolf by an 8-2 margin.
In girls’ play, top Lady Twister seed Mary Elizabeth Harpole survived an 8-6 scare against Elizabeth Finley, while second seed Anna Moore defeated Aura Mae Northcutt 8-5.
Other action involving the Union City ladies’ team (4-4 on the season) had Elizabeth Fuller, Gracie Frankum and Erica Sturkie all defeated, respectively, by Sarah Haynes (8-2), Faithe Davis (8-6) and Corena Hasselle (8-3).
Doubles play had both Union City duos defeated by an 8-3 tally.
Moore and Harpole fell to the Dyersburg combination of Finley and Haynes, while Fuller and Sturkie lost to Lady Trojans Northcutt and Davis.
T.J. Riddle was the lone boys’ singles winner for Obion Central (3-1).
Riddle downed Trenton’s Garrett Hinson 8-2 in the battle of No. 3 seeded players..
The other OC win came in doubles play as Gordon Davidson and D.J. Higgins downed Hinson and Austin Coleman 8-5.
Other singles action had Carson Castellaw blanked 8-0 by Tide top seed Thomas Adams, Higgins doubled (8-4) by Tucker Glidewell and Davidson downed (8-2) by Coleman.
The short-handed Rebels forfeited the No. 5 seed match.
Adams and Glidewell spun a shutout over Riddle and Castellaw in tandem play.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Rebels (1-5) got their only win when No. 5 seed Lindsay Castellaw whipped Morgan Esdale 8-1.
Top Obion Central girl Samantha Scott was downed (8-2) by Lea Prestininzi, while Hallie Norman blanked Kacee Sanders (8-0) and Rachel Taylor defeated Kacee Warren (8-2).
No. 4 OC girl Allison Reddin fell 8-1 to Shayla Smith.
Doubles play had Prestininzi and Norman doubling Scott and Warren by an 8-4 final and Taylor and Smith as 8-2 victors over the OC combination of Sanders and Reddin.
