| In boxing terms, Obion Central had to go 10 rounds before it was able to knock out perennial Class AA State Tournament team Westview on Monday. |
Triumphantly, the Lady Rebels had their hands raised after they scored two in bottom of the 10th inning to edge W’view 3-2.
The Lady Chargers had gone ahead with a single tally in the top of the inning.
Other softball action on Monday had all local teams victorious.
Union City battered Trenton 17-3, while South Fulton swept a twinbill from Mayfield. The Devilettes prevailed 10-0 in Game 1 and 2-0 in the second contest.
Today’s softball slate has Greenfield at Union City and Fulton City at South Fulton.
OC 3, Westview 2 (10)
With Westview ahead 2-1 at the start of the 10th, the Lady Rebels (15-10-1) began the inning with a runner on second due to the “international tiebreaker” rule that goes into effect after nine frames have been completed.
The tiebreaker rule puts the final out of the previous inning at second base.
Leadoff hitter Alex Rapp bunted with Liesel Grossner at second and Westview elected to attempt to get Grossner out at third.
The throw was late, Rapp stole second and OC had a pair in scoring position with no one out.
Central’s Olivia Grady legged out an infield single as Grossner rushed home to tie the game.
Then, Kayla Bramlett was intentionally walked to load the bases.
With a two-strike count, Brooke Ferrell, who already had two hits in the contest, lined a base hit over the right fielder’s head, plating Rapp for the winning run.
Winning pitcher Macy Allison went the distance, throwing what head coach Tommy Victory labeled a “career game” and a “classic.”
The Lady Rebel hurler struck out four and issued just two walks during Monday’s win.
OC returns to action Wednesday in a make-up game at Ripley.
UC 17, Trenton 3
Hannah Jackson drove in a grand total of seven runs, while Katie Townes homered and drove in four during Monday’s lopsided victory.
Winning pitcher Karly Hollis homered and Ashlyn Chism drove in three runs on a trio of singles.
Otherwise, Angela Chesteen had two singles and a double and Olivia Arnold had two safeties as did Kaitlyn Wheeles. Paige Fisher also offered a single and a double for the Lady Twisters (9-10).
Union City also won a junior varsity contest with a final tally of 3-0. Sadie Hollis struck out seven en route to that game’s mound victory.
Taylor Hargrove had a triple and single to lead UC.
SF 10-2, Mayfield 0-0
Winning pitcher Desiray Sturgeon allowed just one hit during the opening game victory.
Marina Barclay and Katie Bivens both were 2-for-3 for South Fulton (19-9) with two runs batted in. Barclay tripled, while Bivens doubled twice.
Otherwise, Chelsie Pitts, Kayla Davidson, Macy Maxwell and Morgan Maxwell all drove in a run.
In Game 2, Devilette Savannah Larson plated both of her team’s runs, while Jennifer Allen was a perfect 2-for-2.
Sturgeon, Haley McKinney, Sam Murray, Allison Stem and Claire McConnell all collected one hit for SF.
McKinney struck out 10 and allowed just two hits en route to the mound win.
