Dr. Sue Byrd receives Friend Of 4-H Award

Dr. Sue Byrd, University of Tennessee at Martin professor of family and consumer sciences, received the Friend of 4-H Award at the recent statewide 4-H Congress.
This honor is awarded to an individual for his or her significant contribution and dedication to 4-H in Tennessee.
Early in her career, Byrd worked as a family and consumer sciences agent in Sequatchie County.
Since leaving extension services, she has continued working relationships with UT Extension.
She has been an advocate for the 4-H Clothing Project and has judged 4-H record books for round-up competition.
Byrd, state 4-H specialists, agents and other staff members are working to revive the 4-H Clothing Project.
The first Line and Design Camp for youth was one effort to help increase interest in the clothing project.
Byrd and the UT Martin Department of Family and Consumer Sciences partnered with 4-H to allow the use of the department’s laboratories for implementation of the camp’s daily activities.
Byrd has written 4-H publication activity sheets in the area of apparel and textiles. Also, she has presented at 4-H in-service, “Activities, Projects and Life Skills for 4-H Clothing Project.”
In addition, she has presented topics at numerous Tennessee Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences conferences and has showcased programs at several poster sessions.
