KEEP MARTIN BEAUTIFUL – The City of Martin kicked off Citywide Cleanup Days on Monday with an effort to use the spring weather as a good reason to clean up debris and recycle. Brush truck operator Stan Lee removes debris from a home on Meadowbrook Drive.

It’s out with the cold and in with the new as City of Martin residents are encouraged to take advantage of Citywide Cleanup Days this week. Throughout the week, community members can take advantage of free debris pick-up offered by the city’s public works department. The department will also collect bagged and sorted recyclables and carry them to the UTM Recycles! barn located off of Moody Street.
Recyclables include paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum cans, metal cans, plastics and old computers. The department asks that residents sort the items into separate bags so they do not end up in the city’s landfill.
UTM Recycles! is open to the public from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. every Monday through Friday. On Saturday, there are several events planned geared toward celebrating Earth Day and spreading awareness about what is available for all community members as well as businesses at the recycle barn.
During Citywide Cleanup Days, on each ward’s usual brush pickup day, the city public works department will collect at curbside recyclable items or brush that for the city’s landfill.
Landfill items are construction material, brush and limbs, wood, furniture, metal windows, metal, doors, old lumber and carpet. Tires will not be accepted at the landfill.
