A 19-year-old Dresden native was laid to rest Monday afternoon in New Hope Cemetery outside of Latham.
Michael Alan Downey, 19, of Dresden died Thursday evening when his 1995 Acura apparently left the roadway and struck a tree.
According to a report issued by THP Sgt. Ricky Bratton, Downey was traveling on Hwy. 89 between Sidonia and Sharon around 9 p.m. on Thursday.
Speed was allegedly a contributing factor in the single-vehicle accident.
Downey was wearing a seat belt during the incident and the air bags on his vehicle deployed during the crash.
He was pronounced dead at Volunteer Community Hospital that evening.
The 19-year-old was a production worker at MTD Products of Martin.
He is the son of Billy and Debbie Downey of Dresden.
Services for Downey were held Monday afternoon at Bowlin Funeral Home in Dresden. Bro. Kenneth Williams officiated the service.
Downey was laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery in Latham.
