Something new is cooking at Joe’s Steak House near Union City.
Obion County native Nick Boals has returned home to serve as the new chef at Joe’s Steak House, located at 3762 Ken-Tenn Highway.
The restaurant is owned by Joe and May Simpson, who took over ownership of the former Italian Vineyard (which preceded the change to Joe’s) in March 2007.
Joe’s boasts a family-friendly atmosphere and “warm, friendly service,” according to Mrs. Simpson, who said the restaurant also offers a banquet room for parties, banquets and other events.
The restaurant serves certified Angus beef.
Boals chose to attend Sullivan University in Louisville, Ky., the No. 2-ranked culinary school in the nation, in order to gain more knowledge and experience to further enhance his abilities, Mrs. Simpson said.
He earned an associate of science degree in culinary arts.
He is Serve-Safe certified, as well as certified in purchasing, food and beverage, and hospitality and supervision.
Boals grew up in Obion County and graduated from Obion County Central High School in May 2003. He is engaged to Audra Landes of Louisville.
Mrs. Simpson said Boals is “ready to give the community a unique taste of two worlds” — offering “good ol’ Southern home cooking” on Thursdays and Sundays, then “an experience of his culinary traits combined with our certified Angus beef to make a great dining experience” on Fridays and Saturdays.
Joe’s Steak House is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4-9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
