Two local men sustained severe cuts early Sunday in an altercation at a Union City night club.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident, which resulted in injuries to Jose Andrade-Mora, 35, and Frankie Rodriguez, 23, both of 413 Beck St., Union City.
According to a Union City Police Department report, police responded to a complaint of a fight in progress just before 3 a.m. Sunday at Shenanigan’s, located at 2227 Phebus Lane.
Police said they observed a disturbance on the southeast corner of the building and police dispatch indicated an ambulance and fire department personnel were en route after being requested.
The two Hispanic men were found lying on the ground unconscious. Both of them had sustained severe lacerations and were transported by ambulance to the emergency room of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
One police officer reported he arrived at the scene to discover several black men running and yelling in the parking lot at the scene. As he got out of his patrol vehicle, a witness indicated one of the men allegedly had a gun in his pocket. The officer said the man had his hand in his pocket and refused to remove it, then went around the side of a building. The officer said he found the handgun lying on the bumper of a vehicle.
The man — identified as Carl Devoe Blackwell, 19, of 608 North Morgan St., Union City — allegedly resisted being placed into custody and was found to be in possession of a bag of white powder believed to be cocaine.
He was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Union City Police Chief Joe Garner said today the assault incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information may contact the police department at 885-1515 or Crime Stoppers at 885-TIPS (885-8477).
