Phillip Scarborough of Troy is offering a seminar about the removal of lead-based paint to anyone who wishes to attend.
The seminar, offered free of charge, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the old Union City Glass Co. building at the corner of Fifth and West Main streets in Union City.
Scarborough said he is certified by Phase One Consultants of Nashville as a renovation and remodeling trainer for contractors. He attended a one-day course of instruction March 16 in Jackson.
“My seminar is intended to educate people on what they have to do to comply with this new EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) code about removal of lead-based paint,” he said. “Anything built before 1978 is likely to have lead in the paint.
“For example, when they paint or remove windows, they have to put in a plastic barrier to catch all the paint chips and then dispose of them in a proper manner,” he said.
