Prema Carr Terry, 36, of 217 South Fourth St., Union City, and Tawana N. Reid Burnett, 29, of 725 South Sunswept Drive, Union City, were both transported by Air Evac Lifeteam helicopters to Regional Medical Center (the Med) in Memphis, according to a Union City Police Department report. Just before 10 p.m., Ms. Terry was southbound in the 3000 block of North Clover Street, driving a 2005 Nissan, when she allegedly failed to properly stop at a red light at the intersection with Everett Boulevard. As a result, the driver’s side of her vehicle was struck by a 2002 Chevrolet driven by Gary L. Stephens, 60, of 4296 Billy Jolley Road, South Fulton. A witness told police Ms. Terry stopped at the red light for a second and then proceeded. Stephens concurred with the witness about Ms. Terry’s having stopped and then gone through the intersection, according to the report. Police reported they found a couple of unopened bottles of alcoholic beverages in the vehicle and said Ms. Terry indicated they were coming back from a local liquor store at the time of the crash. Ms. Terry was cited for a red light violation, with other charges pending, according to the report. |
