PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — The chief of a western Kentucky volunteer fire department has been dismissed.
Reidland-Farley Fire Protection District trustees voted unanimously to fire Richard Tapp on Thursday, finding he had violated terms of his contract and was inefficient in running the department.
The Paducah Sun reported Tapp was hired in August 2002 and was the only paid chief of the department in McCracken County at a salary of about $60,000.
Tapp hasn’t worked since Thanksgiving and was suspended without pay in December. The administrative charges were filed in March, after an unpaid 90-day medical leave expired.
Since his suspension, Tapp has been living near Memphis, Tenn.
The newspaper reported Tapp did not attend the hearing Thursday and will be told of his dismissal by certified letter.
