An August trial date has been set for three local men charged in the beating death of a South Fulton man in October 2009.
The district attorney’s office confirmed this morning that a trial date of Aug. 25 and 26 has been scheduled in Obion County Circuit Court for Rolie “Lee” Edmaiston Jr. of Union City and brothers Sean B. Woodruff and Jeff “Tyler” Woodruff, both of South Fulton.
The case will be heard by an outside judge, Judge Lee Moore.
Edmaiston, 34, and the Woodruffs — Sean, 32, and Tyler, 26 — were bound over to the grand jury in November 2009 on charges stemming from the beating death of 45-year-old David Cranford of South Fulton, who died Oct. 9, 2009, at a Jackson hospital following an Oct. 5 incident at Pop A Top Bar in Union City.
Cranford sustained severe head injuries in the incident.
Edmaiston and the Woodruffs were initially charged with aggravated assault after the incident, but an upgraded charge of second-degree murder was added against each of them following Cranford’s death. During their preliminary hearing, Obion County General Sessions Judge Jimmy Smith ruled he believed there was probable cause for Edmaiston and the Woodruffs to be bound over to the grand jury on both the second-degree murder and aggravated assault charges.
They were indicted by a grand jury in February.
