AARP chapter meets

Weakley County AARP Chapter #3392 met on Wednesday, March 17 in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church in Martin. Activities began at 9:30 a.m. with fellowship and refreshments. Hostesses were Gladys Hailey and Jerry Seamans.
At 10 a.m., Chapter President Gladys Simmons called the meeting to order and read “Customs and Traditions of St. Patrick’s Day.”
The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag was recited. Woodrow Collier shared the history of the flag, which was presented to the local AARP Chapter by Woodmen of the World.
The Health Care Bill was the focus of Collier’s legislative report.
President Simmons gave information about the AARP Day of Service from the National AARP.
Mary Elizabeth Bell told that the local Kiwanis Club had placed portable defibulators in the Weakley County Schools. Jerry Seamans explained recycling efforts at UT Martin.
Gladys Simmons and Sarah Hazelwood volunteered to be hostesses for the April 21 meeting. An interesting program is planned.
