UTM women’s team
inks juco tandem

UT Martin women’s coach Kevin McMillan added two more players to his signing class recently.
McMillan announced he signed Shelby Crawford, a 6-foot-2 forward, and Rickiesha Bryant, a 6-foot-4 forward. Both players are transferring from East Mississippi Community College and will have three years of eligibility at UT Martin.
Crawford, from Thomasville (Ala.) High School, averaged 4.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for head coach Sharon Thompson’s Lady Lions at EMCC. She started five games, played in 28 games and scored double-figures in four games this past season.
Bryant played in 20 games and averaged 1.8 points and 2.8 rebounds a game at EMCC. Like Crawford, she enjoyed her best game at EMCC against Coahoma, where she netted eight points and had three rebounds.
Crawford and Bryant join previously announced UT Martin women’s basketball signees Heather Butler, Perica Glenn, Heather Griffin, Beth Hawn, Jaclissa Haislip, Matrekia Minter, Jasmine Newsome, Aubrey Reedy and Megan White.

1st scramble at Pop
goes to scorecard

Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 8-under par.
The winning team, in a scorecard playoff, included Tommy Lemons, Ken Courtwright, Phillip White, Skipper White and Bedford Dunavant.
Also shooting 8-under par was the team of Terry Wiseman, Eric Stansbury, Damon Campbell, Raymond Hendrix and Rick Smith.
The weekly scramble begins at 5:30 p.m. each week. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The fee includes dinner.
Anyone interested in participating should call 885-3650 by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Durant gets crown;
Griz fall in finale

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Kevin Durant scored 31 points to finish the season as the youngest scoring champion in NBA history, and the Oklahoma City Thunder survived a sloppy second half to head into the postseason with a 114-105 win Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Oklahoma City let most of a 27-point lead dwindle away before closing out its 50th win of the season. The Thunder will meet the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.
Rudy Gay scored 25 points and Zach Randolph had 21 points and 11 rebounds for his 57th double-double of the season as the Grizzlies lost for the ninth time in their final 11 games.

TSU football upgrade
to begin on Saturday

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee State University will break ground Saturday for an indoor football practice facility.
In 2007, school officials announced plans to build the $3.2 million facility.
According to The Tennessean, it will have an artificial surface practice field and will house meeting and film rooms along with the football coaches’ offices.
Construction could be complete by the end of the year.
