John R. Lawson, 78, of Knoxville, a former resident of Fulton, died April 12, 2010, in Knoxville.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with Dr. Lionel McCollum officiating. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the hour of services Friday.
The family requests that memorials be made to National Kidney Foundation of East Tennessee, 4450 Walker Blvd., Knoxville, TN 37917.
He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Knoxville and a former member of South Fulton Baptist Church. He had been the owner of the former Fulton Singer Sewing Center and had also been a longtime employee of OK Parisian Laundry and an insurance agent for National Life.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary (Conner) Lawson; his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Dr. Lionel McCollum of Knoxville; two granddaughters, Lauren McCollum of New York City and Kristen McCollum of Knoxville; his sister and brother-in-law, Shelby and Kenneth Mizell of Manchester; his sister-in-law, Helen Lawson of South Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Velma Lawson; and his brother, Jimmy Lawson.
