|Twister thinclads on podium again |

|The Union City Middle School track teams continued their respective string of impressive performances with a pair of second-place finishes in a seven-school meet at Dyersburg Monday afternoon. |
Both UC squads were runners-up to the host team, the boys edged out by two points — 126-124 — while the Lady Tornadoes’ 118 points was second to D’burg’s 136.
Jamie Hyde recorded a pair of first-place individual finishes for the Twister boys’ thinclads, winning both the 100 and 200 meter races.
Hyde also ran the anchor leg of the 800-meter relay team that placed first, combining with teammates Daulton Parish, Iroa Smith and Dontarius Owens to take the top prize in that event.
UC also got a first-place individual finish from Cesar Landeros, who led the pack in the mile run.
Landeros placed second in the two-mile race.
The mile relay quartet of Ricky Henry, Parish, Cody Easley and Donte Simpson crossed the finish line first to give the locals five gold medals in all.
In other running events, Parish was second in the 110 hurdles and Simpson was runnerup in the 400-meter run.
Smith placed third in the 200, behind Hyde’s winning pace.
The 400-meter relay unit of Jacob Hyde, Smith, Owens and Alex Reid came in third.
Union City added to its team total with several good showings in the field event portion of the competition.
On the boys’ side, Tristan Jernigan was second in the discus competition, with teammate Kane Taylor fourth.
Taylor was also fourth in the shot put, while Owens placed fourth in the long jump.
The UC girls had posted four first-place showings.
Jackie Hudson won both the shot put and the discus. Kealie Reeves took honors in the 100 meter dash, and the 800-meter relay team of Delraysha Alexander, Brittney Parker, Alex Parks and Reeves won it all in that race.
Kaleigh Bynum was second in the discus competition and third in the shot behind Hudson, while Reeves was third in the 100 and Alexander third in the 200-meter sprint.
Parker was third in the 400, and Kaylan White earned the same honor in the mile run.
The mile relay foursome of Hudson, Erica Cawthon, Bettye Claire Beachum and Parker was second, while the two-mile group that consisted of Beachum, Parsha Fair, Garrow Miles and Cawthon came in third.
UCMS will next participate in a four-team quad meet on Thursday in Dyersburg.
