WINS RECONITION — The Tennessee Wildlife Federation at a ceremony in Nashville recognized Charles Birdwell of Greenfield as the “Hunters For The Hungry– Tennessee Processor Of The Year” on March 31. His business processed 140 HFTH deer in 2009, for We Care alone, along with a number of additional deer for Reelfoot Rural Ministries in Lake County. This is more than any other processor in the state. Birdwell also chaired the HFTH program in Weakley County, which raised $20,830 in 2009. He was not only present at all seven fund raising events, he was actively involved—helping cook meat, selling tickets, putting up posters, making phone calls, speaking at meetings and donating money—both personally and from his business. His calm and his “let’s work together” leadership helped the program through growing pains—pains that all new and substantial volunteer efforts are bound to encounter. He spends untold hours working with all aspects of this program every year. This was especially noteworthy in 2009, as he dealt with unusually difficult family health issues, and a devastating fire at his business. Still, his support never wavered. “Charles Birdwell epitomizes what Hunters For The Hungry is all about, not only in Weakley County, but also statewide. He is most deserving of this award,” said HFTH Board Member Jim Byford.wcp 4-13-10
