The Westview tennis team was on both ends of a season sweep this week.
On Monday, the Lady Chargers (4-5) fell for the second time this season to the Milan Lady Bulldogs, but bounced back on Tuesday to notch their second win over the Obion County Central Lady Rebels.
On Monday, against Milan, Westview was swept, 7-0. The Lady Chargers lost a trio of close 8-6 matches. At No. 2 singles, Milan’s Betty Kay Stinson held off Ashleigh Ary, 8-6. By the same 8-6 score at No. 3, Lady Bulldog Kayla Hernandez nipped Westview’s Melissa Darroch.
In doubles, at No. 1, the WHS duo of Ary and Nance was nipped, 8-6, by Betty Kay Stinson/Hernandez.
In other singles matches, at No. 1 singles, Lady Charger Chloe Nance fell, 8-3, to Kristen Garcia. At No. 4 singles, Westview’s Cara Burnham was defeated by Leah Watson, 8-3. At No. 5 singles, Lady Charger Brooklyn Burress fell, 8-3, Milan’s Mary Joe Stinson.
In the other doubles match, at No. 2, Burnham and Darroch were knocked off by Milan’s Mary Joe Stinson and Emmy Merritt.
Milan also swept all four singles matches and two doubles matches that didn’t count toward team totals.
In singles, Westview’s Saba Getaneh fell, 6-3, to Merritt at No. 6. At No. 7, Chantia Brown was topped, 6-1, by Jessica Cheeks. At No. 8, Dylan Brown fell, 6-3, to Sarah McKinney, and at No. 9, Alexis Beverly lost, 6-2, by Ashley Wood.
In the doubles matches, Westview’s Getaneh and Brown were defeated, 6-1, by Cheeks and Watson at No. 3. At No. 4, Lady Chargers Jennifer Hollis and Beverly fell, 6-4, to McKinney and Wood.
In the win against Obion County, the Lady Chargers battled a stiff wind and the Lady Rebels and were victorious, winning 6-1.
In singles play, Westview’s Burnham fought her way to a 9-7 win over Marissa Howard at No. 3.
At No. 1 singles, Nance cruised 8-0 by Kasey Warren.
It was an 8-3 margin that decided both the No. 2 and No 4 singles matches. Westview’s Darroch took the win over Lindsey Castellaw at No. 2, while Burress picked up a point with a win over Rebecah Bloodworth at No. 4.
With only four players on hand, Obion County forfeited the No. 5 singles match.
In doubles, Darroch and Nance took an 8-3 win over Warren and Castellaw at No. 1, while at No. 2 the WHS duo of Dylan Brown and Beverly won, 6-2, over Howard and Bloodworth.
