OC boys’ soccer team
claims 1st-ever win
The Obion Central boys’ soccer team got its first-ever victory on Thursday — a 10-1 romp over Ripley.
Central (1-4-1) scored its first goal about four minutes into the game and never trailed.
Juan Mora had a hat trick — three scores — for the Rebels, while Martin Reyna, Eric Torres, Tanner Noles, Will McBride, Eddy Gonzalez and Brent Flowers all accounted for one goal.
OC goalkeepers Matthew Roberson and Samuel Smith combined for nine saves.
The Rebels return to action today with a 5 p.m. contest at Milan.
UCMS’ Dan Boykin
among Hall honorees
Seven sports standouts, two teams and one booster of community athletics will be honored with induction into the Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame April 16 at 6:30 p.m. in Humboldt.
Union City Middle School principal Dan Boykin, a standout player at Humboldt Stigall High School, heads the list.
Others to be inducted are Bradford girls’ basketball standout Tashekia Brown Abukwue and Gibson County hoopster Missy Herndon Barnett.
Milan football standout James Fuchs and Humboldt grid star Terry Giltner will both also be enshrined.
Trenton golfer Tim Jackson is also set to be inducted along with Humboldt booster Ralph Jones and Spring Hill basketball standout Ricky Walls.
The 1966-67 Stigall boys’ basketball team and the 1975-76 Humboldt boys’ squad, which won the Class 2A state title, are also to be enshrined.
The Hall of Fame banquet will be held at the Humboldt General Hospital Conference Center.
Tickets are $15 and available at high schools in Bradford, Dyer, Humboldt, Medina, Milan and Trenton.

The team of Terry Wiseman, Matt Russell, Robert Huffstutter, Frank Canale and Tom Cleveland combined to shoot a 6-under-par and win the weekly men’s scramble at Wynridge Greens in Troy Thursday.
Meanwhile, the team of Dan Wiley, Danny Arnold, Jason Sullivan and Dale Batchelor got second place with a cumulative total of 5-under-par.
