| It is an event that will bring together canines that share a common bond – they have battled cancer and won the fight. Bark For Life is a fundraising event for canines and their owners that models Relay For Life, but this event is exclusive to canines. The event is planned for April 24 at the Martin Parks and Rec complex from 12 to 3 p.m. that day. The money raised will benefit the American Cancer Society. There is one team from each of the three Relay For Life events in Weakley County. Beech Spring Baptist is participating from Weakley East, Family Ties from Weakley Southwest, and Weakley County Animal Clinic from Weakley West. The proceeds will be shared equally from the Bark For Life between all three Relay For Life events. There will be a ceremony recognizing the canine survivors and caregivers. Canine owners that are survivors and canine owners that are caregivers will also be recognized. Luminaries will be available for purchase to remember or honor those that have been effected by cancer. The cost to participate is $15 per dog the day of the event. Pre-register for the event at Weakley County Animal Clinic in Martin for $10. Every dog that enters will receive an appreciation gift. It is an additional $5 charge to enter the dog show. There will be prizes awarded for each winner. There is also a Top Dog prize for the dog that raises the most money. Dogs are encouraged to raise donations between now and the day of the event. The Top Dog will get a gift basket of canine surprises. Dog lovers and even cat lovers are encouraged to come out to the park that day and watch canines and their companions help raise money to fight cancer. WCP 3.18.10 | | | |
