The Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild in Kentucky, a non-profit community arts center located in the historic Ice House in Mayfield, has several exhibits and classes planned.
On-Site Italy, an exhibition of on-site drawings from the Kentucky Institute for International Studies, will be on display through March 31.
Dale Leys, professor of art at Murray State University was the drawing instructor for the Kentucky Institute of International Studies Italy program this past summer. The Travel Journal for Artists class was attended by college students from across Kentucky with work created on-site in Florence and Ostia. The 30 drawings on display at the Ice House represent 10 selected works each from Leys and two students from MSU’s Department of Art & Design, Maddie Bartley and Matt Brantley. The Travel Journal for Artists class drawings on exhibit are in watercolor and pen and ink.
This is the fifth Ice House Drawing Invitational to be curated by Leys for the Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild.
This month’s workshops are on the basics for better landscapes. These classes are designed for beginners and those wanting to brush up on their skills. Teacher Shane Gregory is an award-winning artist in both drawing and painting. His work is on display in the Guild’s Ice House Gift shop.
A workshop on How to Paint Snow will be held today and one on How to Paint a Pleasing Landscape will be held March 25. Both are from 6-7:30 p.m. Children’s workshops, geared towards those ages 9-14, are set for today on Drawing Super Heroes and March 25 on Drawing Mythological Creatures. Both are from 4-5 p.m. Fees apply.
On March 27 and April 3, Janice Harris will be leading a stained glass workshop for beginners. Students will learn about tools, materials and how to cut glass and put it back together. The patterns, tools, glass, copper foil, flux and solder will all be provided. The two-day class will meet from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., with a lunch break. Fees apply.
Patty Feather will instruct Basket Weaving Workshops May 14, June 18 and Aug. 20. She has been weaving baskets for many years and teaching for the last 10 years.
