Martin Fine Arts Club meets at Arts Gallery

The Martin Fine Arts Club met Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Arts Cooperative Gallery in downtown Martin. Hostesses were Mrs. James Fisher, Mrs. Phil Wade and Mrs. Donnie Davis. Chocolate truffle cake, valentine candies and coffee was enjoyed by 17 club members and one guest.
President Mrs. Bob Peeler lead the members in reciting the collect and opened the business meeting. The roll was called by Mrs. Joe Exum and the minutes were read and approved. The treasury report was given by Mrs. John Wall. Mrs. John Chester reported for the nominating committee giving the slate of officers for the upcoming 2010-2011 year. They are president- Mrs. Bob Peeler, vice-president- Mrs. James Cannon, secretary- Mrs. Joe Exum and treasurer, Mrs. John Wall. The club members approved the slate of officers.
Following the business meeting, Mrs. Fred Vowell introduced Peggy King for the afternoon program “Exploration of Art.” After spending most of her life, education and career in Michigan, Peggy moved to Martin in 1993 where she continues to be a community arts advocate and a visual artist. She shared information about the local Arts Cooperative Gallery, which consists of a variety of media in two and three dimensional art. The gallery hosts events in literary arts and music through out the year. Her personal art is enamel costume jewelry, enamel and fused glass art and paintings. Club members enjoyed browsing through the many exhibits.
Members in attendance not already mentioned were, Mrs. Bob Cheeseman, Mrs. Harold Clifton, Mrs. Tom Farmer, Mrs. G.T. Hall, Mrs. Michael Hinds, Mrs. George Pritchett, Mrs. James Pritchett, Mrs. Lee Pritchett, Mrs. James Shore and Mrs. Sanford Truitt.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 3.
