With less than one week remaining in the 2009-10 basketball regular season, the upcoming district tournaments are still in a state of flux.
Regular season games are still waiting to be played for all four Weakley County high schools. Only Greenfield has finished its district slate, but the Yellowjackets still have one non-district game left on the schedule.
All four county schools will have their teams in action on Thursday night. Dresden will visit Greenfield in non-district action with tipoff at 6:30 that evening. In District 13-AA action, Westview will host the Obion County Rebel teams — including a clash of top 10 girls teams — with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m. Gleason will take to the road to square off against Bruceton for a District 13-A contest with a starting time set for 6 p.m.
On Friday night, Dresden returns to District 13-A action when it hosts Carroll Academy, with an earlier than usual tipoff time of 5 that evening. Also in District 13-A, Gleason will make the short road trip to McKenzie with a starting time of 6 p.m. Westview will entertain the Milan Bulldog teams in 13-AA play with tipoff set for 6:30 that night. That evening, Westview will host a Lady Chargers Appreciation Night with all former WHS girls basketball players invited to attend and be recognized. Westview girls who have tallied more than 1,000 points during their high school careers will also be recognized.
Westview will not close out its regular season until Saturday night, when it hosts Covington at 6:30 p.m. in District 13-AA action rescheduled due to winter weather from this past Tuesday night.
As for the three district tournaments that involve Weakley County teams, all three have slots left in the standings that have yet to be determined.
Both the District 13-A  and 13-AA tournaments were originally scheduled to begin on Saturday, but have now been pushed into next week.
According to Dresden High School principal Chuck West, an administrative coaches’ meeting for the District 13-A tournament will be held on Friday to set up new bracket times. Big Sandy High School, a member of 13-A, has three more games to play and, as of press time, had scheduled one of their make-up games for Monday.
Originally, District 13-A first round games were to be played at the higher seed’s home with the semifinals and finals to be played at McKenzie High School.
The District 13-AA Tournament’s start date has been shifted from the original Saturday opening night to a Monday evening start for the play-in games between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds in both boys and girls brackets. All District 13-AA Tournament games will be played at Obion County Central High School in Troy with tipoff times slated for 6 and 8 p.m. The 13-AA girls quarterfinals will be Tuesday and Wednesday nights, followed by the boys quarterfinals on Thursday and Friday evenings.
The girls semifinals will be held Saturday, Feb. 20 with the boys semis on Monday, Feb. 22. The girls championship and consolation games will be held Tuesday, Feb. 23 with the boys final and consolation games set for Wednesday, Feb. 24. The Region 7-AA Tournament is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 26 at Lexington High School.
In District 14-A, tournament action will begin with the girls quarterfinals on Monday, Feb. 15 with higher seeds playing host. The boys quarterfinals are slated to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 16, again with the higher seeds hosting. The semifinals and finals will be hosted by Peabody High School in Trenton.
Peabody will also host the upcoming Region 7-A Tournament.
