Weddle nominated
for top OVC honor

Morehead State’s Ken-neth Faried was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the third time in the past four weeks on Monday.
Faried averaged 19.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game during a pair of Morehead State victories last week.
Union City product and UT Martin guard Marquis Weddle was also nominated for the Player of the Week award.
Otherwise, Murray State’s B.J. Jenkins was named the top newcomer in the league for last week and Tennessee Tech’s Jud Dillard earned the league’s Freshman of the Week award.
Jenkins averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest last week as Murray State increased its win streak to 13 games.
Jud Dillard averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last week for the Golden Eagles.
UTM’s Terrance Cole-man was also in the running for the freshman award.

Samburg sign-ups
slated for Saturday

Signups for those youths who plan on playing youth league baseball in Samburg this spring and summer are slated for Saturday.
Registration will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Samburg ball field.
Youngsters ages 5-12 are eligible to play in coach-pitch, T-ball, minor league and little league.

UTM softball opener
canceled due to snow

The UT Martin softball team’s season-opening appearance at the Middle Tennessee Invitational has been canceled amid winter weather concerns in the mid-state area.
The Skyhawks will now open their season Feb. 19 at the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic in Hammond, La.
UT Martin will face Grambling State in the season opener at the Louisiana event.
The Skyhawks will also face Mississippi Valley State Feb. 19 before squaring off against Saint Louis and Jackson State Saturday.
The Skyhawks will conclude the three-day tournament against host Southeastern Louisiana Sunday morning before returning home.
