Rives baseball signups
scheduled for Saturday

Signups for the coming baseball season in Rives have been set for Saturday.
Youths interested in playing coach-pitch, T-ball, minor league and/or little league must register from 10 a.m. until noon at the Rives City Hall in order to play this year.

LaBrica twice honored
for efforts as Skyhawk

Union City product and UT Martin freshman LaBrica Ward and junior Alecia Weatherly combined to sweep all three weekly awards handed out by the Ohio Valley Conference on Monday.
Ward was named the Player and Freshman of the Week, while Weatherly collected her seventh Newcomer of the Week award of the season.
This marks the first time that Ward has been named the OVC’s Player of the Week and the second consecutive week she has earned the top freshman honor.
Ward averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two wins last week.
Against Tennessee State, Ward netted a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds to record her first collegiate double-double.
Weatherly averaged 23.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in the Skyhawks’ two wins last week.
Ward, Weatherly and the rest of the Skyhawk women return to action on Thursday night at Jacksonville State.

Local fighter Miller
featured nationally

Amateur mixed martial arts fighter Chris Miller of Union City’s Team Relentless gained national recognition after his recent victory over Courtney Alexander in Memphis.
Miller won by three-round technical knockout and his fight was featured on HDNet’s “Inside MMA” television show as the “Fight of the Week.”
Miller will be in the main event Saturday when Team Relentless presents “Union City Fight Night 6” at the National Guard Armory.
Tickets for the event are $30 for VIP seating or $20 general admission.

Diamond Jaxx tickets
now on sale in Jackson

West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 2010 season tickets and flex books are now on sale.
Full season tickets are $450 for reserved seating or $350 for general admission.
Flex books, which can be purchased for a 35-game or 10-game plan, are also available.
The cost of the 35-game plan is $280 for reserved seating, while the 10-game deal is $85 for reserved seats and $55 for general admission.
Tickets may be purchased by phone at 988-5299.

Obion Co. softballers
having last sign-ups

The Obion County Girls’ Softball League will be having its last day of sign-ups on Saturday at the Troy Community Center.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at noon for girls ages 6-16.
The registration fee is $30 and due on Saturday.
