The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has drafted Obion County jailer Bobby Wyatt of Union City for duty in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
Wyatt was alerted last week that his activation for mortuary duty was imminent. His wife, Wanda, confirmed Tuesday that he has been activated. She said he left Union City Monday and flew out of Washington about 6 a.m. Tuesday. She estimates he will be gone at least two weeks.
Wyatt, 59, is a member of an augmentation group with the federal Department of Homeland Security. He works in its natioanal disaster medical systems division. He is a licensed funeral director in the State of Tennessee.
Wyatt has been deployed several times before — Hurricane Charlie in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. His last deployment was Hurricane Ike in September 2008.
