|To play or not to play? |
That was the question.
The answer is … Not today.
With school dismissed in both Weakley and Obion counties due to road conditions, a decision was made this morning to postpone the Area 5 Middle School Tournament in Martin until Tuesday.
The tournament’s en-tire Saturday slate was wiped clean due to the widespread snow that engulfed most of northwest Tennessee.
On Tuesday, four first-round games will be on tap when the event picks back up and the start times have been determined.
To start action on Tuesday, the Martin and Ridgemont girls will play at 4 p.m.
Then, the R’mont boys are slated to battle Paris Inman at 5:15.
In the evening, the girls from Hillcrest and Lake Road take to the court at 6:30, while the Cougars go up against the Martin host at 7:45.
On Tuesday, South Fulton and Black Oak must also make up a postponed first-round twinbill that was taken off the slate last week.
According to SF athletic director Keith Frazier and officials at Martin Middle School, the two games will played at a neutral site — rumored to be at Lake Road.
Friday’s area high school slate was also shaken up by the winter storm.
South Fulton’s District 14A twinbill with Halls was postponed Friday as was Obion Central’s District 13AA date at Westview.
Union City also put its 14A doubleheader with Greenfield on hold.
SF has announced Feb. 12 as the makeup date for its games against Halls.
Central athletic director Tommy Victory told The Messenger this morning that Feb. 11 is the date currently being discussed to make up the doubleheader at Westview.
Union City will host Greenfield on Thursday night.
Obion Central hosts Milan, while UC travels to Lake County and SF goes to Humboldt.
