Trailer fire claims Martin man, infant
Tragedy struck a local family Friday evening when a trailer off of Hwy. 431 near the Gardner community caught fire.
The Martin Fire Department responded to the scene around 9:30 p.m. on Friday. Upon the department’s arrival, the structure was fully engulfed with fire and a bystander told the MFD that there were people still inside the home, according to a press release issued by the department.
After extinguishing the fire, the department found two victims inside the structure – Clyde Edgeston, 41, and 23-month-old Darius Edwards.
MFD Chief Russell Schwahn said an investigation into the blaze revealed the fire was accidental and caused by a tea pot  left on a hot range. Mutual aid was given by the Sharon Fire Department, Weakley County Emergency Management, Martin Police Department, Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, Weakley County Municipal Electric System and the Weakley County Ambulance Service.
