MFD receives federal grant funding

MFD receives federal grant funding
After waiting nearly one year, Martin Fire Chief Russell Schwahn said the department is now the recipient of a $38,000 Homeland Security Grant.
Schwahn said the good news came Wednesday from Con. John Tanner’s office.
The funds will be used to replace an outdated breathing air fill station at the department. The fire chief said the current system is not capable of filling the high-pressure air bottles the firefighters now use.
Under the grant, $2,000 of the $40,000 award will come from the department’s budget. Schwahn said he will advertise for project bids immediately. The federal grant is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
