Miss Brooke Ann Roberts and Reginal Lane Roberts, the children of John and Trudi
Roberts of Farragut, and the grandchildren of Second Vice President National Aline Gray Roberts, became Junior Members on December 29, 2009, of the Tulip Grove Chapter # 359 United States Daughters of 1812.
Also Alexander Gray Roberts and Rachel Lauren Roberts, children of Gary and Karen Roberts, Sharon, are Junior Members and descendants of William Waller Gray.
Junior membership into the society is available from birth to 21 years of age to any one who can provide documented proof of lineal descent of an ancestor, who during the period of 1784-1815 rendered civil, military or naval service to our country, rendered material aid to the US Army or Navy or participated in the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
The War of 1812 holds much historical significance. At the Battle of Baltimore, Frances Scott Key, wrote the “Star Spangled Banner”. The house on Pennsylvania Avenue in  Washington, D.C. was referred to as the President’s House until it was buried in 1814.
After it was painted white, it became known as The White House. The US Flag had 15 stars and Gen. Andrew Jackson became a war hero with his win at the Battle of New Orleans. He fought with and had his life saved by Indians whom he would later force to
give up their land in the Trail of Tears. Many of the Tennessee troops were named the
Tennessee Volunteers, and after the war Tennessee would be nicknamed the Volunteer
