The works of Jody Stokes-Casey will be exhibited at the Arts Co-op Gallery, Jan. 22-Feb. 20. There will be a reception honoring Stokes-Casey at 6-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22, at the gallery located at 217 Lindell St. in Martin.
Stokes-Casey’s portfolio of collages is a unique hybrid of techniques, styles, colors and subject matter that she has come to call paper applique artworks. Each work begins with a drawing and is made from a carefully selected grouping of textured and printed papers. Layer by layer the work is built through an applique-like process until the desired image is created. Incorporating birds in most of the works provides excitement and color to the pieces as well as a subtle story of the subject’s personality and history
Her works have been exhibited at the West Tennessee Regional Art Center, The Ice House Gallery, Murray State University, Western Kentucky University at Bowling Green, The Murray Art Guild, The University at Tennessee at Martin and the Ned McWherter Cultural Arts Center.
Stokes-Casey is a University of Tennessee at Martin 2008 graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts emphasis in Arts Education degree. She is a member of the National Art Education Association and the Tennessee Art Education Association. She teaches at Milan Middle School. Recently, three of Stokes-Casey’s students at Milan Middle School have had their artwork accepted in the Second Annual West Tennessee Regional Student Art Competition held at the West Tennessee Regional Art Center in Humbolt.
