A local man told Union City police he was robbed of cash late Monday night on the parking lot of a convenience store at East Reelfoot and South Miles avenues. The incident apparently occurred sometime between about 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. outside 3 J’s Food Mart, according to a Union City Police Department report. Police were dispatched about 11:45 p.m. to the home of the 48-year-old victim, who told police he had gone to 3 J’s a short time earlier and, while exiting his vehicle, noticed a black man walking up to him. The victim said the man started making small talk and, at some point, asked if he had any money. The victim indicated he had a little money and told police the man, in an intimidating manner, demanded he give him his money. He claimed the man grabbed him and he believed the man would harm him if he did not comply, according to the report. The victim said he took his money from his wallet and gave it to the man, who fled the area in a vehicle. Published in The Messenger 1.19.10
