James Edward Tate Sr., 70, of Jackson, formerly of Union City, died Jan. 15, 2010, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Macedonia Baptist Church at 106 Glass St. in Jackson, with Bledsoe Funeral Home in Jackson in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
He was born April 15, 1939, in Union City, son of the late Dennis and Mamie Tate. He graduated from the former Miles High School in 1957 and was employed as a surgical technician at the former Obion County General Hospital in Union City. He later moved his family to Jackson and worked at the Urology Clinic.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Tate; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Wayne Middlebrooks of Chattanooga and Jac-queline and Eric Knight of Clarksville; three sons and his daughter-in-law, Lexzell Tate of Jackson, Lonzell and Jane Tate of Chicago and Kelvin Tate of Dallas; 11 grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Tate of Ypsilanti, Mich.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Minnie Tate and Rebecca and Lester Massey, all of Union City, and Louise and Horace Martin of Fulton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his son, James Edward Tate Jr.; his granddaughter, Jasmine Tionne Knight; his brother, Dennis Tate Jr.; and four sisters, Carrie Dale Massey, Mary Helen Tate, Mamie Lou Whitsey and Wilma Jean Tate.
