Robert Edward “Ed” Watson, 89, of Troy died Jan. 15, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.

Services were set for 11 a.m. today at Troy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Judd Mowery officiating. Burial was to follow there in Terrace Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were to be Mike Watson, Tim Jones, Mark Watson, Lee Sampson, Jonathan Hudgins and Robert Woody. 

Honorary pallbearers were to be members of the Seniors Couples Class of Troy United Methodist Church, members of the Troy board of aldermen and the mayor and Glenn Rudd, Lynn Jones and Terry Cammuse.

The family requests that memorials be made to Troy United Methodist Church.

He was born June 5, 1920, in Obion County, son of the late Robert Hill and Erma (Jimerson) Watson. He married the former Rene Vivian Guy Aug. 16, 1941. She survives. He was a carpenter and contractor and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. 

He was a member of Troy United Methodist Church and had been an alderman for the city of Troy for more than 30 years, serving much of that time as the vice mayor.

He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Billy Woody of Union City and Jo and Eugene Hudgins of Obion; four grandchildren, Sherry Eason of Sevierville, Robert Woody and Jonathan Hudgins, both of Troy, and Jennifer Hogg of Germantown; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Garrison of Troy and Imagene Wallace of Livonia, Mich.; and his brother, Billy Watson of Brandon, Miss.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Everett Watson.
