Lael Sunday School Class of Union City First Baptist Church held its monthly meeting at the family life center.

Joyce Stephens opened with prayer. Dot Capps brought the devotional, taken from II Corinthians 4:3-4. In this scripture, the Apostle Paul expressed his determination to persevere in ministry when people refused to come out of the darkness into the light, which is the good news of what God has done through Jesus Christ to save sinners. The verses say that, first, Christ died for our sins according to the scripture; second, Christ was buried; and third, Christ was raised on the third day according to scripture. Soldiers buried Jesus in the tomb. Satan thought he destroyed Him. Pilate was glad to get rid of Him. However, the grave couldn’t hold Him because Jesus was the Lord of Life. When He was raised on the third day, He was victorious over sin and death, Ms. Capps said.

Jean Eaker read a poem called “The Cross.”

Ms. Capps also acted as hostess and served cake, ice cream, trail mix and coffee.

Those present were Pat Cunningham, Edna McIntosh, Ms. Eaker, Mrs. Stephens, Trudie Thornton, Dorothy Rasberry,  Faye Passmore, Ms. Capps and Grace Killion.

The hostess for February will be Ms. Killion.
