Several events are planned by the local “We The People” organization during the coming weeks. The group is dedicated to preserving the rights and freedoms afforded to citizens of this nation by the U.S. Constitution, according to a spokesman.

On Jan. 16 at 9 a.m., there will be a Constitution refresher course at Greenfield Community Center at 114 Broad St. and the Selmer Tea Party will kick off at the Eastview Civic Center on Highway 57 West from 1-3 p.m.

On Jan. 19, the Gibson County Patriots meeting will be 6:30 p.m. at Trenton Elks Lodge on the Highway 45 Bypass.

These sessions are open to all who are interested.

On Jan. 23, the state of Tennessee’s combined TEA parties will be forming a caucus to represent the “People” in the form of the Tennessee TEA Party Coalition. The caucus will be meeting on that date to ratify the first two sections of the Tennessee TEA Party Coalition’s proposal. This is a delegate-only event. Other sections, including a candidate contract, will be prepared for ratification in the near future in a similar state-wide meeting, which will be announced soon, the spokesman said.
