Black Oak survives scare at LR
The Black Oak girls survived their biggest scare to date on Thursday night.
The Lady Eagles, who were down 24-22 after three quarters at Lake Road, kept their perfect record intact with a 28-27 triumph.
Meanwhile, the Union City girls were knocked from the unbeaten ranks, falling to Lake County 42-27.
In other Thursday action, the UC boys downed LC 36-27. The Lake Road guys won 41-19 over BO.
At South Fulton, the host boys upped their season’s worksheet to 13-0 after a 35-14 shellacking of Hillcrest.
In the opener, the Lady Cougars edged the Devilettes 24-23.
Ridgemont’s twinbill with Paris Inman was postponed.
It will be made up on Jan. 19.
Black Oak girls survive
Dianna Flippen swished a pair of free throws with under a minute remaining to lift Black Oak (12-0) to the win.
All totaled, Flippen was the Lady Eagles’ point leader with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Lake Road’s Nicole Storey equaled Flippen’s point output. Carly Whipple and Kelsey Beeler brought down eight and seven rebounds, respectively, for the Lady Generals (4-6).
In the boys’ game, John Garrett paced Lake Road (5-5) with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Dylan Caudle added 10.
Black Oak (0-12) had David Jones with eight.
BO hosts Hillcrest on Monday, while Lake Road entertains Martin.
UC gals suffer defeat
Lake County was up 23-4 at halftime during Thursday’s contest.
Jackie Hudson set the pace for the Lady Tornadoes (13-1) with 14 points.
In the boys’ game, Malik Stockdale finished with a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds) for UC. Marcus DeBerry topped the scoring summary for Union City (6-8) with 15.
UC welcomes Northview to town on Monday.
Lady Cougars get by
Ashlyn Runions totaled a team-best nine points for Hillcrest (8-3), while Maci McDaniel accounted for seven on Thursday.
No stats were reported by the South Fulton girls.
In the nightcap, Harrison Hawks was the high-point man for the Red Devils with 11 points and four steals.
Chase Starks led the Cougars (3-8) with four.
SF has R’mont  at home on Monday, while H’crest travels to Black Oak.
