A Goody’s department store will be reopening in Union City in the near future. According to the store’s Web site, a location is “coming soon” to Union City’s County Marketplace at 1700 West Reelfoot Ave. The opening — currently scheduled for late March — was confirmed by Andrew Hinz, district manager with Stage Stores. He said Stage Stores purchased the Goody’s name in July after Goody’s filed for bankruptcy and has reopened several stores within the past year in locations where Goody’s stores had previously done well. “I think that says a lot about Union City,” he said. A Goody’s store which was previously open in Union City’s County Marketplace closed in 2009. Goody’s is now part of Stage Stores, which brings nationally-recognized brand name apparel, accessories, cosmetics and footwear for the entire family to small and mid-size towns and communities, according to the company profile on the Web site. The company currently has over 745 stores in 39 states. The company operates under the Bealls, Palais Royal and Stage names throughout the South Central states and under the Peebles and Goody’s names throughout the New England, Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern and Midwestern states. Hinz said Stage Stores will be holding a job fair locally within the next few weeks in preparation for the opening of the Union City store. He said prospective employees should watch The Messenger for ads concerning the job fair. Published in The Messenger 1.7.10
