A drug-related offense was levied against a Union City man following a traffic stop early New Year’s Day.

Wesley Dewone Coleman, 21, of 606 East College St., Union City, was arrested at 1:53 a.m. Friday on South Fifth Street and charged with simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana), according to a Union City Police Department report.

Police reported Coleman was a passenger in a vehicle stopped in the 100 block of South Fifth Street for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver, identified as James Bogan of Union City, and his passenger, identified as Coleman, seemed “nervous” during the stop, according to the report, which indicated Bogan was subsequently arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.

An officer reported that a plastic baggy with a green leafy substance was seen in plain view in the driver’s side floorboard, resulting in Coleman’s being charged.
