Aircraft en route to UC crashes, claims life of pilot

 A Tennessee pilot who was en route to Union City died on Christmas Day when his plane crashed in rural Calloway County, Ky. Michael Davis, 25, of Pleasant View, located in Cheatham County, was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash that occurred around 3 p.m. Friday, according to a Kentucky State Police press release. The KSP, Calloway County sheriff’s deputies and other emergency responders arrived on the scene just after 3 to find the wreckage of a small aircraft fully engulfed in flames. The aircraft had topped several trees before crashing in the side yard of a residence on Redbud Road, northeast of Murray, Ky. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calloway County coroner. According to sources close to Davis, his aircraft took off from Leitchfield, Ky., about 2 p.m. Friday en route to Union City, the KSP reported. The KSP was investigating the death and remained on the scene overnight Friday to await the arrival of Federal Aviation Administration officials, who were expected to arrive Saturday to begin an investigation into the crash. The KSP was being assisted by Kentucky Emergency Management, Calloway County Fire and Rescue and Calloway County DES. Published in The Messenger 12.28.09
