David Speed
David Rex Speed, 78, of Union City died Nov. 14, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eastview Cemetery with Dr. David Russell officiating.
Friends may call at White-Ranson Funeral Home from noon until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Robert Bagwell, Harvey Bondurant, Jack Ballow, Robert Baird, Larry Myatt, Bobby Wyatt, David Parks and Ken Pitts.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Character Builders Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church in Union City, members of the Good Sam’s Camping Club, Tommy Triplett, Britt Barkley and John Smith.
The family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church in Union City.
He was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Hickman, Ky., son of the late Lexie B. and Duva Buton (Crittendon) Speed. He married Manye Bess McGaugh July 29, 1955. She survives. He was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where he worked in the receiving department for 28 years. He was a member of the United States Army and was retired from the Kentucky Army National Guard, having served as a staff sergeant for 25 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Union City, Character Builders Sunday School class and Good Sam’s Camping Club. He was also a member of the Goodyear Retirees Club, which he served as vice president.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Martha Lynn Kendall of Union City; two nephews, Robert Kendall and David Kendall, both of Union City, his great-niece, Amy Powell of Union City; his great-nephew, Matt Kendall of Martin; and his great-great nephew, Gavin Arnold of Union City.
He was also preceded in death by two infant daughters, Margaret Lynn Speed and Laura Beth Speed; his brother, Charles Stuart Speed; and his brother-in-law, James “Bubba” Kendall.
