Talent Show set for Sept. 7

On Sept. 7, WCMT Radio Station and the Westview High School Key Club will co-sponsor the 5th annual Soybean Festival Talent Show which is a preliminary competition for the Mid-South Fair in September 2009.
The competition will begin at 6 p.m. on the Downtown Main Stage in Martin. If it should rain, the back-up location is the Boling University Center at UTM on the Watkins Auditorium Stage.
There are four age categories in this year’s competition. There is an 8 years and under competition and Junior division which is 9-12 years of age (all of whom can compete in the Mid-South Fair Junior Competition), the Mid-South Fair Preliminary Competition which is 13-21 years of age and the 22 and older competition.
The overall winner of the 13-21 years old division has an automatic entry into the Mid-South fair competition. Other entries in this division may also receive an invitation from the Mid-South Fair Representative who attends the competition.
First and second place trophies will be given in each age category except the Mid-South Fair competition category, and there will be an overall winner and first, second and third place trophies provided in this division.
The entry fee is $20 per act, and you can compete in solo, duet, group, band, variety and dance.
Pre-registration is required, and your entry form and entry fee should be mailed to Linda Ramsey, 986 Adams Road, Martin, TN 38237 or emailed to lramsey@utm.edu by Sept. 4.
The eight and under, 9-12 competition and 22 and over will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7.
The 13-21 years old competition will begin at 7 p.m. and participants should arrive one hour prior to show time to check in for the show.

Proceeds will benefit community service projects of the Key Club such as Relay for Life, and also help provide them with opportunities for leadership training. Accompaniment tapes or CDs should be provided by the contestants. Your act should be at least three minutes, but no longer than four minutes long and there should be no background vocals on your accompaniment tape or CD.
When you compete at the Mid-South Fair, your act cannot exceed four minutes nor can you use background vocals.
