Completed arrangements are being announced for Wilma Jean “Sallie” Nettles, 68, of Union City, who died Sept. 1, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Rawls Funeral Home in Union City, with interment following in East View Cemetery. The Rev. John Brooks will officiate.
Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
She was born April 19, 1941, in Union City, daughter of the late Robert and Estella (Bailey) Abbott. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Union City and had been an employee of Permanent Power Electronics in Chicago. She had also been a cook at the former Searcy’s Restaurant in Union City.
She was the widow of Eddie Nettles, whom she married Feb. 7, 1962. He died in 2003.
Survivors include her son, Donald Nettles of Union City; her daughter, Maria Jordan of Lebanon; six grandchildren, Donta Nettles of Chicago, DeShawn Nettles and Tamara Nettles, both of Martin, and Deonta’ Snow, De’Audre Snow and Ja’mariya Jordan, all of Lebanon; two brothers and her sister-in-law, George and Mary Abbott of Evanston, Ill., and Russell Abbott of Union City; three sisters and her brother-in-law, Elanor Bryoon of Humboldt, Vernice Nettles and Mamie and Jerry King, all of Union City; two other sisters-in-law, Ruth Cole of Tiptonville and Mary Abbott of Union City; and her aunt, Josie McFall of Union City.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mattie Abbott and Jean Abbott; and four brothers, Larry Abbott, Choice Abbott, Billy Abbott and Joe Abbott.
