The Messenger, September 2, 2009
The fountain at Kiwanis Park in Union City is in need of repair and a fund has been set up at First State Bank for the effort.
Union City resident Sandra Lee, who recently resigned from the City Beautiful Commission to concentrate on her college studies, said she is still in charge of the project and is in need of help.
She said even though she resigned from the commission Aug. 4, she still planned to “pound the pavement” to raise funds to repair the swan fountain. Unfortunately, she suffered a mild stroke on Aug. 7 and has been unable to work toward that effort.
She told The Messenger the stroke affected her left side, though she can still walk slowly with a cane, and it caused her to lose her peripheral vision in her left eye. Because of the hopefully temporary vision loss, she is unable to drive.
She said if every Union City resident could give just $5 each toward the effort, the fountain could be properly repaired.
Donations may be mailed to First State Bank, Kiwanis Fountain Fund, c/o Bonnie Brunswick, 100 East Reelfoot Ave., Union City TN 38261 or made in person at the bank.
